MPEG Viewer plugin
« on: April 28, 2010, 07:01:56 PM »
OK , so I put videos on my sansa e280, but they have to be in mpg 2 form? Does anyone know of a good program that will convert .wmv files, .flv files, to mpeg 2 so that I can play the videos through the MPEG viewer?
Thankyou!!! ^^

Please read the manual before posting questions like this.
I know its a lot to read but its worth it. You can find out a lot of stuff you didn't know.

EDIT: seems winff doesn't have a setting for the e200.
You're going to have to use one of the other converters to get the right screen size.

My bad, winff supports the e200. I overlooked it when I was scrolling through the presets.

e200s screen size is 220x176.

Gak, I have to be an admin to install winff  ...hmm...guess I will do it at home ...someday...  For a sansa e280 , what is the best screen resolution to have, I converted some .flv files ( using riverpast or something like that), but it isn't full screen of what the original was.
- I will read the manual , thx, this will probably help.
Hmm why didn't rockbox come with an application that plays all video types ( and not just mpeg? ) This would of saved me alot of time =P ( because my mp3 supports .wmv, and .flv (I think) )
- I will use one of the converters on the mpeg manual page, or if that doesn't work, another one, thx for the resolution, I will make sure it converts to that =P
why doesn't rockbox support only mpeg for video files, look at how many audio files it supports...=P

WinFF is great, in my view.  The ability to specify fps for MPEG2 makes it invaluable to me.  With version 1.2 there are settings for Rockbox for e200 full screen and e200 widescreen.

One can create and save presets in WinFF as well.

Nobody has volunteered to write such an application. As well, these devices don't really "support" anything as hardware. The software on it supports some formats though (usually though, the sync software is secretly converting it behind your back anyway).

Rockbox is an audio player firmware. It was originally designed around devices that didn't have any much likelihood of ever seeing use as video players (mono screens, etc). A lot of its format support developed during that time. Now that it's on devices more suitable to video, nobody has stepped forward to do the work.

Oh I see =P makes sense. Thanks. I am using ultimate converter, it had some errors that pop up on videos that are perfectly fine ( like if can't decode it, or error pops up a million times...) I will try another converter software for those videos...
