Unless the drive in question is an Archos drive then atapwd is not going to help you; it's not a tool for cracking the password, it's simply a program that sends the password *you give it* to the drive. Someone happened to find out that one of the two passwords on the Archos drives was empty.

If your drive is some other disk, and it's locked for some other reason, then you will need to discover one of the two passwords in order to unlock it. This is not normally possible :)

Some drives have a secret way of clearing the lock (usually accessed over serial on two of the drive's jumper pins) but this normally involves low-level formatting the entire drive surface first before it allows the lock to be reset :)
