Creative ZEN alike?
« on: April 24, 2010, 08:54:40 PM »
Can anyone suggest a stable port Rockbox-supported player similar to the Creative ZEN, esp in form factor?

Sadly the close-matching Toshiba Gigabeat seems now unavailable.

Thanks

Thanks. Looks like the Gigabeat is the only option - the only other device having a large screen has no 4-way navigation buttons.

None I can find. Only accessories e.g.

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=gigabeat+X&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=gigabeat+F&_osacat=0&bkBtn=

The X is rare.  If you just search for "gigabeat" you should see a few.

Thanks, but not in the first 150 matches for sure.

Thanks but "Toshiba Gigabeat S30" is not a Gigabeat X, surely.

True, it's better in basically every way.

You also didn't mention that you're only willing to accept the Gigabeat X, since your initial few posts just mention looking for a Gigabeat in general.

Theres about 5 Gigabeat X players in all existence, so you will not find one.  The F is basically the same player with a different shell, and the S is the upgraded version.

Thanks, but not in the first 150 matches for sure.

I suggest that you learn how to filter your search results, then.

Except according to http://www.rockbox.org/ it has no stable port.

> You also didn't mention that you're only willing to accept the Gigabeat X

Because that's untrue.

> since your initial few posts just mention looking for a Gigabeat in general.

As I wrote, I'm looking for a "stable port Rockbox-supported player" and according to http://www.rockbox.org/ X and F are the only such Gigabeats.

> Theres about 5 Gigabeat X players in all existence, so you will not find one.

Aha. Thanks.

Maybe instead of just going point by point misunderstanding people who are trying to help you in the most annoying way possible, you could just take the time to figure out what it is you want and where to find it yourself.  Several seconds on ebay would have answered nearly all the questions you've asked here . . .

More annoying is possible Saratoga - e.g. I could have been impolite :)

> you could just take the time to figure out what it is you want and where to find it yourself.

What I want is as I said "a stable port Rockbox-supported player similar to the Creative ZEN, esp in form factor" and I asked having already taken the time but not found an answer, and assuming the experts here might be able to provide one.

BTW, suggestion for improvement: update http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/BuyersGuide "Rockbox supported players that are currently available for purchase" to reflect the fact that, as you say, the Toshiba Gigabeat X is unavailable.

There's already a hint that this is the case due to lack of any price info for the X series, but I have added a footnote to the table to point this out more clearly.

I see you wrote "may be difficult to find."

May I ask why, given Saratoga's "you will not find one", you don't remove this device from the list of currently available devices?
