Seeking with the scroll wheel
Klepto-Man:
Hello,
There are several players with a scroll wheel, like the the Sansa E200 and Fuze series, some of the iPods.
Right now the function of the scroll wheel is to change the volume.
I'd really like to be able to use the wheel to seek in songs instead. The right and left buttons could be assigned to volume control.
In my opinion, the wheel gives much greater control than the buttons, and I think it is wasted on something as simple as volume control.
Does anyone agree?
yapper:
Search the forums for 'scrub' - this idea has been discussed previously.
Klepto-Man:
Thanks.
From what I understand, this 'Scrub' function was made for the ipod rockbox only, correct?
How would one go about adding this to a Sansa player?
saratoga:
From what I remember, the patch for the ipod was rejected a few years ago, so it might give you a rough idea how to implement it, but I doubt you'd want to use it directly.

I too would be very interested by this. This is how my old Rio Karma works, on top of that with an audible seeking, and this feature is great especially when listening to speech or podcasts.
When I suggested this in Sansa forums (http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=sansafuse&thread.id=42434), it was received as a lese majeste offense, showing the level of fanboyism from some Fuze users. But as Klepto Man says, the scroll wheel would be better used for seeking than for volume changing.
The patch you are talking about is this one: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7762. However, it does not use the wheel to seek, as far as I could gather from reading the patch, but a combination of double click to activate a scrub menu. That would be interesting to see if something similar could work with the Fuze, but taking advantage of the wheel (by pluging it to the volume change function).
