new theme series 320x240: photoSkins

Very nice theme!
All of the images i've seen show the text in white and it is nicely visible. I've put 2 of these on my D2 and on both, the text is showing as black and is difficult to see. Can I change it to white? And if so, where do I look?

Which Rockbox version are you using? One (recent) that supports multiple fonts is needed, and you need to have the fonts listed here http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=24544.msg165353#msg165353 in your fonts folder, perhaps that fixes the problem?

hmmm, those fonts are present and I'm runnning the rockbox version from build.rockbox.org/ updated earlier today.
Edit: I'm missing 09-Nedore.fnt. I've got 08-Schumacher-Clean, 16-GNU-Unifont, and 19-Nimbus plus the Helvetica ones.

Edit: Edit: I installed everything in font pack from extras. Font is now appearing in white. Don't know what changed but I'm not asking questions

Unfortunately I'm having problems with the WPS screen of the photoSkins-vinyl and other of your themes (SpartanBlack, AW200, arboxWidgets).

I even tried downgrading from rockbox 3.6 to 3.5.1, to 3.5 and back to 3.6 but they're still not working . Reinstalled the themes everytime I changed the OS version.

Running iPod video 80 GB.

Could you be more descriptive? 

It looks though like you are downloading the theme versions for current builds *and* using Rockbox 3.6, or vice versa

Sure. I was running rockbox 3.5 and updated to 3.6 in the morning. Then I decided to look if there was anything new in the themes section. 

I downloaded the photoSkins-vinyl, AW200 (my default theme), SpartanBlack and Widescreen skins from here:

While the themes loaded OK, the WPS does not work (shows the default screen).  This was really bad, since I use AW200 as my preset theme.

Then I read that the theme syntax changed over the weekend so I decided to downgrade to 3.5.1 and see if the themes work. They didn't.

I downgraded further to 3.5 to no avail. I then re-installed 3.6, the font package and all the themes but the WPS simply refuses to work

If you want themes that work on 3.6 you need to use the themes on the older theme site here: http://themes.rockbox.org/oldsite/www/index.php?target=ipodvideo. The themes on the current site only work with the current builds beyond 3.6.

I see. Thanks for the URL.  Isn't that a bit messy or couterintuitive ? that the themes in the default site won't work with the release firmware?

Maybe, but the release is actually a frozen snapshot of something older than the current build, and the default site does carry a warning:

If you are running release 3.6 or a svn build before r26641 you should download your themes from here.

I'm trying to use photoSKins Vinyl theme on my Cowon D2 with Rockbox version r26820. But when even I chose this theme, the background becomes white and theme is not loaded...any solution for this...i really want this theme   :'(

If you have the necessary fonts (see http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=24544.msg165353#msg165353) and if you have installed the right theme version for the Rockbox build you are using, it will work OK (in your case, downloaded from here http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php)

As said before, unlike other themes that aim to display big album art or a lot of info, the intention of the photoSkins  themes is making your device look different and cool as a whole.


For that, (mostly) photographs are used as background, with one predominant color that contrasts (or goes) with the device’s color. “bass” is a new addition to the series (many thanks to “mp3” for the cool background!... and sorry for taking so long to make this ).

   

It has a few differences compared to the previous photoSkins, but the most relevant are visible in the D2: the FM skin  and the added touchscreen areas in the menus for better browsing. I plan to gradually (and probably very slowly  ) add FM skins etc to the previous photoSkins as well.

EDIT: This theme will also work for iPods on realease 3.7.x by easily commenting out a couple lines inside the .cfg and .sbs that do not interfere at all with the functionality. Although the modifications are indicated inside the mentioned files, I'm attaching the modified files to overwrite on ipods (photoSkins-bass-sbs.txt has to be renamed to photoSkins-bass.sbs)  By the way, maybe .sbs (and .fms) files should be permitted now as attachment in the forum threads
