My Beloved Mini Seems to be Dead
« on: April 09, 2010, 09:48:11 AM »
Hi everybody!
I'm panicking here! :-[
Tried to install R.box on my mini.
Now neither iTunes nor Rockbox work on it.
And can't uninstall Rockbox either!!!!!
I get this message:
"BAD CHECKSUM
HOLD MENU + SELECT TO REBOOT THEN SELECT + PLAY FOR DISK MODE
Partition 1:0x0B3866
Loading Rockbox.....
Length: 86DC8
Checksum: 361B611
Model Name: mn2g
Loading Rockbox.ipod
Sum:361B60F
Error!
Can't Load Rockbox.ipod"

If I hold: Select+Menu, I get this message
If I hold: Select+Play, simply says Disk Mode.....ok to Disconnect.
That's all!!
No other options.
Hopefully somebody had same problem and managed to solve it!

Many thanks for any help.

How did you install Rockbox, what exactly did you do, and what happens when you connect it while in disk mode?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick answer!
I installed it by downloading R. and unzipping it onto my computer...then installing it in mini.
I realise now this might not be the procedure to follow (ALWAYS read innstructions carefully!)
I restored factory settings through iTunes (WORKED, thank God!) and will now restart...
I have to unzip it directly to the ipod, don't I?

You should be using Rockbox Utility.

Loading Rockbox.....
Error!

Ipod file not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to Reboot

I don't know. Tell me exactly what you did. It looks like you didn't do a complete install.

Well I followed the Installation Instruction step by step:
-Enable use as disk
-There are three separate components, two of which need to be installed in order to
run Rockbox:
          The Rockbox bootloader.
          The Rockbox firrmware.
-To automatically install Rockbox, download the official installer and housekeeping tool
Rockbox Utility.
-When fi rst starting Rockbox Utility run \Autodetect"
-1. Download your chosen version of Rockbox from the links in the previous section.
-2. Connect your player to the computer via USB or Firewire as described in the
manual that came with your player.
-3. Take the .zip le that you downloaded and use the \Extract all" command of
your unzip program to extract the les onto your player.
-The entire contents of the .zip le should be extracted directly to the root of b
your player's drive.
-If the contents of the .zip le are extracted correctly, you will have a directory called
.rockbox, which contains all the les needed by Rockbox, in the main directory of your
player's drive...............................

..
I only have a file called rbutilqt-v1.2.5

Please, type in your own words what you did. Do not copy and paste. Explain everything.

The fact of the matter is, something has gone wrong. I need to know exactly what you did - what did you click on and which options did you choose?

I'm sorry about cut/paste!
It's just because that' exctly what I did:
I downloaded the Utility and did Autodetect
It found my 1st gen Mini
Hey..........
I forgot to download the actual Current Build!!!!!
Thanks for telling me to type in my own words!!!!
I had to recheck step by step and.....IT WORKS!!!!
Many, many thanks for your help.
...
Could you just possibly tell me how to switch between Rockbox and iTunes?
I must be really dumb....can't do it, apparently!

That will be in section 3.1.3 of the MANUAL http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodmini1g/rockbox-buildch3.html#x5-250003

Seriously - you should put on some good tunes and sit down and have a read of the manual, Rockbox has a very good and comprehensive manual, you will miss out on lots of things if you don't take a read through it.

Multiplex, you are absolutely right.
I have to admit I rushed through it.
Plus....at work, so the time was very limited!
So....I apologize and thank you for your support!!
;)
....
One thing I have so far been unable to find in the manual is this: when I connect to my laptop at home I get this message:
"USB Device Not Recognized"
I'm looking through google to see if it has happened before (must have! ;))....but nothing so far.
P.S.: I'm on windows xp both at work and home and the usb ports on the laptop work allright through iTunes.
