Using embedded art ..?
« on: April 04, 2010, 06:22:32 AM »
Hi there.

I have an 80G video iPod and have been using it happily with Rockbox for some time now. However I do need to use the Apple firmware from time to time. It works with the dock / remote that I use for my HiFi, and it works with the FM dongle. Consequently, I've always used gtkpod (an iTunes equivalent for those who don't know) to transfer my MP3s and the associated cover art to the iPod.

My only problem is that I'd like to view the album art while playing tunes from Rockbox. My understanding is that I'd need to organise my music in a folder-per-album hierarchy, with an image file in each, representing the cover. However, since gtkpod doesn't store my MP3 files on the iPod like that, I assume I'd basically have to start again, and do without using the Apple firmware, or maintain two sets of MP3s (I don't have enough space for that).

Is my assumption about that correct? Is there any way I can use the Apple firmware and Rockbox simultaneously on the same MP3s, while using the album art feature in Rockbox?

Thanks

See appendix C of the manual. It explains were Rockbox looks for album art. In your case, the folder "/.rockbox/albumart/" should do the trick.  Your files need to be properly tagged for that to work though.

Ah, so you can put them in a dedicated folder .. fantastic! I can feel a bash script coming on. Thanks! The files do have artist / album name tags so it should work, with a bit of fiddling for truncated names, / characters and so on.
