Ipod Nano 2nd Generation
« on: April 03, 2010, 08:10:45 PM »
Just a view quick questions before I install Rockbox: Does it drain the battery life much faster with Rockbox installed? Before installing it, should I delete my music from my ipod, I have about 200 songs?

Thanks. Also, on the site it said that it is unstable. Is this something that I would notice or will it have bugs?

Quoting the front page:

Rockbox runs on these players, but is incomplete, less usable or has problems that limit it to advanced users:

Please read the obvious information first. It's on the very first page.

And seriously, every software has bugs. That's because it is written by humans, and humans make mistakes.

For example, even the software that Apple installed on the Nano 2G in the first place has bugs in it, one of which we exploited to get Rockbox running on it in the first place.

Yea I understand that every thing has bugs, what I meant was that bugs that could possibly render the device useless. I installed it already and it runs fine so i really don't care anymore. I'm also curious about videos. How much space would say a 2 minute video take up approximately?

Once again: please read the frontpage. Quoting once more:

Does that say anything that it can render a device useless? Besides, you can't brick Ipods by installing software. You can always restore with Itunes.

Just check the demo videos that are linked in the documentation, see http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginMpegplayer

That depends on the quality you encode it at.

But as an example, the fullscreen version of the "Elephant's Dream" sample video that you can download here:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer#Sample_Videos

is about 40MB in size, and 10m 54s long.
