Do some themes consume battery life faster than others?  Are there low-consumption themes?

Depends on the player.  If you have a player that turns off the screen when not in use, it won't.  If your player doesn't, theres some minor difference.

because of how the skins redraw there should be absolutly no difference between a big heavy theme and a light one.

I'm in the process of doing some benches on my mini2g, I've got 18h both in the menu and in the WPS, the menu has a almost nothing skin, the wps is the default cabbie.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I would advise setting the backlight to about 15 seconds so the track information is on screen for a decent length and set "Sleep After Backlight Off" to Always.

I tested my battery last week using the Knightbox theme on my iPod video and had the while playing screen set to come on whenever I touched the click wheel (my sleep after backlight was set to always like I mentioned above.). I got 27.5 hours in total (from 94% battery)compared to almost 21 using Apple firmware the previous month. You guys need congratulating on how you've improved battery run time over the years.
