No 'jump to ~' function in text viewer?
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:02:35 AM »
I frequently read texts with my rockboxed C250. Sometimes I accidentally push the right directional button, and the text viewer brings me to the bottom of the text. It is kinda ---- to go all the way back by pushing 'up' or 'down' button for a long time(it's even worse when I was reading about 50% part of a 2~3mb text). It always makes me wonder why the text viewer of rockbox doesn't have the jump function which is the most basic one of its kinds. It has various options like wide view, scrollbar, word wrap, but no jump? I don't know much about programming, but isn't it easier to put it in the viewer than other functions?

And why does the right/left directional button is assigned to almost useless 'jump to the top/bottom' when the scroll mode option is of no use and no button on C200s can scroll page up/down?(directional buttons and volum buttons only scroll lines altogether :-[)

It doesn't have it as nobody has programmed it.  I am sure that if someone were to implement it, then it would be included.

Reading such texts on C250?! That's... well... very brave! :-)

I fixed this button issue just a few days ago, in revision 25262. There's still no "jump to X" button, but the left/right buttons will now skip by pages, unless you are in wide scroll mode (in which case they scroll left and right instead). To skip to the beginning or end of the file, you can hold left/right.

So, if you update to the current build it won't do that any more.

The scroll mode page vs line selection should work, though - if you set that to "page" then it should always scroll by a page. Are you sure this doesn't work? If not that's a bug, but it works on my ipod.

Oops, I didn't know that as I updated the rockbox of my C250 on thursday. I cannot update it again for now, but it's still a good news.

After resetting settings for few times, it seems to work fine now. A strange phenomenon... Sorry for bothering everyone for it.  :'(

Anyway I'm looking forward to the addition of jump function in text viewer.

It won't happen until someone that wants it bothers to work on it :)  I do agree that it'd be a nice addition hough.
