iPod 5G - USB & Morse Code Settings?

(1/1)

Stringrazor:
I've just loaded RB 3.5.1 on my 5.5G iPod 80GB. While looking through the General Settings/System menu, I noticed features that I haven't been able to figure out how to use and the info in the manual and on the forum is light at best.

1) Morse Code Input - this feature isn't even listed in the manual.
2) USB Keypad Mode - I can't get this feature to work. When I connect to Windows via USB the iPod always shows the white "do not disconnect" screen. I once briefly saw a RB "mouse mode" screen but then it changed quickly to the "do not disconnect" screen. I tried turning off the USB HID feature but that made no difference.

Would someone please explain how to use these features?

Llorean:
I've never used Morse code input myself, so I can't help there.

As for the USB Keypad mode, that's not available in the release version of the iPod builds. It's only available in the non-release builds because it depends on Rockbox's software USB code. Because this code still has charging issues on iPods it's disabled in the release so that users don't run into difficulty charging their players.

Yes it is, see 4.1.3 Virtual Keyboard.  But its basically what it sounds like.  You can type using morse code.

USB is disabled in 3.5.1 so you can't use any USB features like HID.

Stringrazor:
Thanks for the swift responses!

It is technically possible to use HID on the release builds, but not in the usual way. Hold Menu while inserting the USB cable to avoid rebooting into disk mode, and then you can send HID codes from the debug menu or using the remote_control plugin. The "normal" HID keys from the USB screen are not available, but plugins can still send HID codes.
