Sansa e250r - installed but where's the beef?
« on: March 28, 2010, 04:56:42 AM »
I went through all the directions, and installed Rockbox. It rebooted itself twice at the end as it was supposed to.

But.... nothing has changed! Still boots up as Sansa, with same menus, everything.

What did I do wrong?  ???

Did you install the bootloader properly? Rockbox Utility can't install the bootloader on the r variant, you need to use e200rpatcher.

Thanks -
I downloaded e200rpatcher.exe, but, gee, did I actually need to run it!?  :-\  .

(Guess that is what happens when I start such a project at 1am)

Can I run it after the install of the rest of Rockbox, or do I need to uninstall and start over?

You haven't installed rockbox yet, so just start the instructions from the beginning.

OK started from the beginning, and immediately ran into a problem.

---
Started Sansa in manufacturer mode, but this time:
- 1. I did NOT get the request to load driver, as I did the first time, and
- 2 the Sansa (USB Mass Storage Device) was NOT on the Device Mngr/USB Controllers list - so I could not install the e200-manufac-driver.
---
So, I went ahead and ran e200rpatcher.exe, and it seemed to work smoothly, flashing the message on Sansa screen "Firmware Unlocked, Proceed to Step 2".
---
I made sure that the OF.mi4 was in System Folder, and PP5022.mi4 was in Root. All the Rockbox files (Sansa v2) that I unzipped were still in the Root directory as well.
---
But, in the end, same result. It boots as Sansa, just like always.

I'm not totally sure but I think you should be using the other e200 files (not the v2).

I had a failure again, and then I realized that I had 2 copies of the pp5022 in 2 different folders, and I tried the other.

...Success. Thank you.  :D

...and it is even better than I hoped! Incredible sound control, best I have ever found on any player, by far.
