Why bother?
Because the stable releases are stable because people use the daily releases (which are pretty darn stable) and report problems.

I've been using Rockbox for going on four years now, and can count the problematic daily releases I've used on one hand.

didn't thought about that, sorry

The thing is I don't keep the very basic themes like boxes and rockbox original on my iPod so to keep things as I like them I delete the backdrops, wps and theme folders from the build before I transfer them to my player but I'll do that to make sure nothing goes wrong.

like 2 years ago we got the idea of a lite version of rockbox, which i think is still an awesome idea. it never was implemented yet.
we got the fonts out of the daily build i wish we could get the themes out of the daily builds as well and have them separate like the fonts

You're of course free to do that, but what's the point?

AlexP:
I also would like to remove the bundled themes and just ship with Cabbie v2 now that we have the theme site - the other themes are no longer necessary.  This process has somewhat started, as the inbuilt themes have been uploaded to the theme site.  However this is another conversation for another thread.

sixthofmay:
I compiled a LBA48 build using r25280 for my X5L 240GB upgrade and had been experiencing the issue vocrobot posted about. I thought it might have been related to the LBA48 build, but then saw this thread today and compiled a new build with r25335 and the issue has disappeared. So the r25271 reversion appears to have fixed it.
