Deleting original iPod folders?
« on: March 18, 2010, 03:41:39 PM »
Hi folks!

Since my iPod is working perfectly, is it safe to delete all the ipod folders from my nano? (ie: ipod_control, notes, calendar etc)? everything except my music folder and the .Rockbox folder?

thanks!!

If you delete ipod_control all the OF's settings will be erased and it will prompt you for language when you start it; you probably don't care. :)

An alternative that may work better if you do ever boot the OF again is to just set the "hidden" attribute on the folders: this makes them disappear from the rockbox file browser when Show File Types is set to anything other than All, and the OF will not reset the hidden attribute so they will stay hidden forever.

But, yeah, it's up to you, it won't hurt anything.

hmmm....

this didn't solve my issue. For some reason, I delete all the folders, but whenever I turn off rockbox, my ipod reboots itself and goes into Apple Ipod mode? It asks me what language I want.

every time!!! :(

How can I prevent this from ever happening...it's such a hassle having to select the language, let apple ipod finish loading, then force reboot on the ipod and then finally have rockbox load.

thanks!

Hello rdolmat.

First make sure that the "Hold" button is not enabled when you switch the iPod on, because normally Rockbox only boots into the original firmware when the "Hold" button is enabled. I had similar issues with my Ipod 5.5G that was not booting into the original firmware, but kept booting "in cycles". Try to delete Rockbox and the Bootloader with the Rockbox Utility. Restore the device in iTunes and reinstall the Bootloader and Rockbox preferably using the Rockbox Utility too. Make sure the iPod is in the correct mode (Disk mode I think). But see the Manual for details, how to correctly install Rockbox. This at least helped me solving my booting problems, but don't ask me why...

Hope that helps you too.

Greetings c_k
