Dynamic Playlist names
« on: March 16, 2010, 10:14:52 AM »
I am in the process of creating a WPS which displays the name of the playlist. I personally almost never use the database, instead playing either a pre-created playlist, or a dynamic playlist which is basically just a directory. So, I've used the directory name as a fallback for when there isn't an explicit named playlist, but it occurs to me that this isn't very useful behaviour for other people who may want to use this WPS.

So far as I can tell from the documentation, there's no way to extract information about a database-driven playlist for use in a WPS; is that correct? If so, has anybody thought about implementing such a feature?

Example: Suppose you select Artist: John Williams and Genre: Soundtrack, I'd ideally want to show something like "John Williams / Soundtrack", but even having just one of those elements would be better than nothing.

Thanks.

That's only useful if the user is using the database, and only plays a single category/subfolder/album.

It's basically a feature for an exceptionally limited special case.

Why not just accept that dynamic playlists are dynamic?

I guess that makes sense. I'd thought that you'd be able to have a list of criteria that your search had been made of, but (as I say) I don't really use the database, so I don't have much of a feel for what it can do.

Well, the directory name works well enough for me as a fallback for playlist name, so I guess I'll stick with that.

Thanks for the help.
