In praise of Rockbox's support (was Everyone PLEASE READ! (IPod Nano 2G) )
« on: March 10, 2010, 02:18:51 PM »
I just finished reading the thread "The worst thing about Rockbox."

I'm absolutely disgusted by the ingratitude of the losers who complain about the level of supposed "customer service" from the forum of the most AWESOME open source product I've ever used!

If your car was broken down on the side of the road, and someone pulled over to help... do you have a right to complain because the person didn't have time to explain the entire process of replacing the engine??

NO.

I just wanted to thank EVERYONE who has contributed to this amazing piece of art!

There is an immense amount of work being put into this program... and it shows!

I am continually amazed at how often Rockbox is updated... how quickly bugs are fixed... and how much effort the contributors are pouring into Rockbox!

It's obvious that this is a labor of love.

Who cares if Rockbox isn't perfect? What is?

It's still HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the stock Apple firmware on the iPod Nano 2G! I can finally watch movies and TV shows, read ebooks, play games for free, and (of course) listen to music!!

Rockbox turned my useless one-trick-pony into something I use every day!

I just want to say:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

YOU GUYS ROCK!!

Or is it, "YOU GUYS ROCK BOX!!"?

lol

I totally agree!! You are the best ;)
Every day I look at Subversion and things that have been changed I'm surprised how often some changes are made.
Thank you!!

Having just recently come back to Rockbox and being so impressed that I removed all my music from the daft sorting that the OF does and just dragging and dropping folders like ALL OTHER PLAYERS DO I want to add my appreciation to.

I first started using RB about three years ago when the player's battery took a big hit and although I loved it from the start I couldn't afford to let my run-time drop by half, but things have improved so much over the years.

Like the above poster says you guys are updating and tweeking Rockbox all the time, adding improvements as necessary. I can't show my gratitude enough for what you can do with Rockbox compared to the tat that is Apple firmware. When my iPod video dies I guess I'll be buying spare parts for it rather than buy a new iPod Classic because it's sound quality is not as good and you can't use this wonderful firmware.

Thankyou to EVERYONE who has a part to play in Rockbox. It is fantastic!!

Sometimes the mods and developers must think that users are an ungrateful shower. So it's good that someone has created a short thread for those of us who use rockbox, constantly and on a daily basis without much trouble.

Personally I quite like the fact that people on this forum are direct, to the point and treat me like an adult, in contrast to the faux sincerity of so-called "customer service."

Best thing about rockbox? Playing my ogg and flac files on an 80gb ipod video. And occasionally realising the usefulness of some piece of functionality I never saw the point of.

So your (unpaid) labours are appreciated and understood by those of us who have bothered to RTFM!  ;)

You can simply say you're not agree with them, but calling them "losers" is insulting.

Those two guys didn't say anything bad about Rockbox itself. Their complain is more about how some guys answering questions and the overemphasizing of the manual.

Isn't there a forum rule to use a descriptive title? Is "Everyone PLEASE READ! (iPod Nano 2G)" descriptive? I can't read anything about iPod Nano 2G. Why do you applaud to someone who violates a forum rule? It would be fair to treat everyone the same.

Yes, there is and this thread doesn't have one, which should be changed.  However, to say I am applauding the lack of a descriptive title is a bit much - I said thank you for the content of the original post as I think is very clear.

You are correct.  It isn't necessary to attack anyone else and I thought that phrasing was a bit much.

I think it would be better to keep the two threads separate, don't you?
