Larger disk ipod Video v3.5?
(1/1)
dgrainger:
Hi,
I bought a ipod with Rockbox v3.4 pre-installed.
It seems to be a 30Gb version upgraded with a Samsung HS081HA 80Gb disk.
It's running r23339M-091025 and needs ipodpatcher to patch thebootloader.
My question is: is my ipod v3.5 compatible or does it need an unsupported build? (I was advised to look at the 240 Gb threads)
Many thanks,
Dave

Unless you're using a hard drive with a capacity over 137 GB you have nothing to worry about. If you're using a larger hard drive than that, though, you'd need a modified build with large hard drive support compiled into it.
For more information (if you want it) you can always read this wiki page. (Note that the page refers to the Archos specifically but the same procedure is needed for any players with larger drives over 137 GB in capacity.)

Not all the steps on the page are the same; the multivolume stuff works around a specific limitation on Archos only.
There are two possible things you might need to do, depending what kind of hard drive you have:
1) If it's over 137GB (128GiB) you need a build which is compiled with HAVE_LBA48.
2) If the hard drive has large physical sectors *and* does not support unaligned writes (like the original 80GB ipod drive), you need a build with a sufficiently large value for MAX_PHYS_SECTOR_SIZE.
The current build on your ipod is modified (that's what the "M" means in the version number) which suggests that one or both of these changes have been made to the build you are using. Thus, you are likely to need a custom build still.
