Rockboy on Ipod Nano 2g
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:59:13 PM »
Hi. I'm having problem with Rockboy on my Nano 2g. Im using the newest build.
Every time I try to start any GB or GBC game, I've got error *PANIC* stkov main .
I asked another person with Nano 2g and Rockbox and he couldn't play any game too.
Is there any chance to make Rockboy work?
Thanks for help.

Sure it can be made to work, but the nano 2G is listed as unstable for a reason.  It just needs someone with the needed skills to take a look at it, and for most devs Rockboy isn't a priority.

limarus,

I don't suppose you have a build environment set up do you?
The problem with Rockboy is fairly trivial to fix if you do.

Have a look here, then post back.

Unfortunately I don't have skill to do it  ::)
So we have to wait for some kind dev to do this.
Thank you for explanation.

G4Oblivion,

There is no need to create the rockboy directory manually...the plugin will do this itself.
The "problem" as I understand it relates the the main stack size, hence the *PANIC* Stkov Main (or *PANIC* Stackoverflow Main).
As I said in my earlier post, this is rather trivial to fix if you have a build environment set up.
Though I'm not sure "fix" is quite the right word for it...its more of a workaround.
The same "fix" will also stop the pictureflow.rock plugin from throwing the same error.

PS: What do you mean by "Warning: iPod Nano doesn't have sound with iboy"?

Are you talking about Rockboy (the Rockbox plugin) or iBoy (from IPL)?

Rockboy most certainly does have sound enabled (although it is a bit crappy), but I can't (and won't) speak for iBoy...as that would be entirely off-topic to both this thread and the entire Forum.

It already does work, or atleast did, guess it got broken in one of the updates.

When I create the directory manually rockboy works, when I don't rockboy gives the error "*PANIC* stkov main". I have no idea what the reason for this is and i'm not that good at coding so I won't understand why.

I never had to create the file manually before but lately I've had too.
All I know is that it works fine if I create the rockboy directory.

About the iBoy thing, I name the file where I keep my ROMs "iBoy" not because of IPL but, because its a smaller name than rockboy and it goes between iMovie (My movie folder) and above Notes. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Where do you create the rockboy directory?

I have the same *PANIC* stkov problem now, but it worked with a build from Feb.

I suspect this change http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi/trunk/apps/plugins/rockboy.c?r1=19776&r2=20160 from Mar 2 may be what broke it.  If I get a chance I'll try and build with that change reversed and see if it fixes it.

Oops, that change was from Mar 2 of last year, so that can't be it...

E:/.rockbox/rockboy/

Just create a folder called rockboy in the .rockbox folder.

Just create a folder called rockboy in the .rockbox folder.

that's kind of a terrible place to put them, as rockboy is a viewer plugin, meaning you'd need to navigate to the (hidden by default) .rockbox directory before being able to play a game.

Yes, just stick the ROMs anywhere you like.

Nobody said anything about putting ROMS in /.rockbox/rockboy.  But for some reason rockboy wants this directory.  Maybe for save files?  Creating it ahead of time, even if the ROMS are stored elsewhere seems to get rockboy past the stack overflow PANIC in the build I had from a week ago.

Perhaps this is all moot now as the Nano 2g stack size was just doubled in SVN yesterday.  You guys are doing a great job with this!  Thanks.

It would be awesome if someone started working on rockboy again. Rockboy still has quite a few bugs.

Getting the sound working on the Nano 2G would be nice. (Sounds very choppy and slow, you can't make anything out.)
Rockboy and the MPEG player are the main reasons people use rockbox.
