Nano 2G charging
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:39:25 PM »
I'm interested to know how the circuitry handles charging. When my Ipod's battery is full (4.28 V) the battery current reads 8-9 mA, does that mean the battery is being trickle charged?

What does "Car Adapter Mode" mean? I can't seem to find clear documentation on it.

I'm interested to know because I am building a MintyBoost, a kit for 2 AA batteries (2.4/3 Volts) to 5 volt. I want to know if it is a bad idea to just run my Ipod off the AA batteries.

I am also asking that someone change the 80 hours estimated battery life to something closer. I did do a battery benchmark a while ago, unfortunately when the Ipod attempted to reboot it corrupted all the flash. I do know it lasted aprox. 14 hours though.

80 hours *IS* a better estimation of battery life  ;)

IIRC it used to read somewhere in the vicinity of ~4000 hours from a full charge...
I'm not 100% sure whether or not battery benchmark results (or lack of) is the issue here.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

But 24 hour estimation would still be more accurate, I am doing a battery bench as we speak. It is at the 9 hour mark now, voltage reads about 3.9 volts.

Stupidly long runtime estimates are used to make it obvious that the runtime isn't properly calibrated.  A battery bench would indeed allow a better calibration to be made.  I don't know what the status is for the nano 2G, but if it is saying 80 hours I would guess it is uncalibrated.

As for car adaptor mode, the manual says "Car Adapter Mode. When using the player in a car, Car Adapter Mode automatically stops playback on the player when power (i.e. from cigarette lighter power adapter) to the external DC in jack is turned off. If the Car Adapter Mode is set to On, Rockbox will pause playback when the external power off condition is detected. Rockbox will then shutdown the player after the length of time set in the Idle Poweroff setting (see above). If power to the DC in jack is turned back on before the Idle Poweroff function has shut the player off, playback will be resumed 5 seconds after the power is applied. This delay is to allow for the time while the car engine is being started. Once the player is shut off either manually, or automatically with the Idle Poweroff function, it must be powered up manually to resume playback."

However, it doesn't seem to be in the nano manuals.  I assume from your question that it is enabled for the nano 2G?
