Theme Feedback
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:14:09 PM »
As the themes page doesnt allow comments, I've made this thread for the themes I've made as I need feedback and bug reports. I hope this is ok. Thanks.

Themes are the ones made by Billy Blair for the iPod nano 1G.

Over to you...

Right,

First thing I would do would be to give the theme(s) some animation...

The turntable you've used as your fallback case (fallback for no AA? Or is it just a background?) is just begging to revolve according to play speed and direction...
I happen to know just by looking at what you've got going on there (I author themes for the Nano's myself) that you have *plenty* of skin buffer left over to pull this effect off.
Don't know how to do it? Just ask me  ;)

I'd be happy to give you a hand to get this effect working.

[St.]

PS: You've reminded me how badly I need to sync "Symmetry" (also Nano1/2g) with the slick .sbs toting, more heavily animated, and cleaner coded version I'm working on now...
Thanks  ;D

i think if you click on the actual theme there is a box you can type in. isnt that a comment box?

That's for reporting the theme to the admins in case of copyright infringement or other such issues, or to report if the theme doesn't work at all, it's not a regular comments box.

Um, thats actually the album art!  ;D

The fallback looks like the attached image (AAMinimalInc example).

I want to keep it simple and not overwhelmed with flashing/moving images.

karashata is correct. It's only for reporting. Would be very useful if there was a comments section instead of just a rating. Ah well, can't have everything I suppose!  ;)

I'm personally waiting on the edge of my seat for your nClix theme...Since multifont support is now available in the latest builds, will we be seeing it soon? Or does the theme site prevent you from uploading if a theme isn't Release v3.5.1 compatible?

Towards the bottom of the description for each theme there is listed:

Works with current build.
and
Works with release build.

If however it doesn't work with either build, it will say:

Does not work with current build
and
Does not work with release build.

Themes only have to be compatible to the current build in order to be uploaded, they don't have to work with the release builds (if they use a tag that was introduced since the last release, for example).

Its actually already done, but theres a bug with the %cs tag. It doesnt clear the screen properly. I think I need to put the %cs in a viewport but it still doeasnt work. Ill probably post it up anyway as it is useable.

%cs isn't supposed to clear the screen, it's supposed to display which screen you're on.

Unless you're using it as a conditional to display different information depending on which screen you're on and it's not removing the previous screen information properly, in which case I have no idea to help you.

I'd also have to guess that it's ideally a .sbs tag only since that's the only place it would still be seen on screens other than the WPS.

EDIT: Actually, I guess it could be used in other files once all of those screens are theme-able... Though it still makes more sense to use it in the .sbs...

I'd post a bug on the tracker if you haven't already...

First, though, I have to ask, how exactly are you using the tag? Perhaps you could post your .wps file on the thread here so someone could quickly take a look at it and make sure it's being used correctly before we declare it a definite bug?

Ive uploaded the nClix theme for everyone to look at.

I did get errors uploading it tho, the parsing failed saying: time format is not a allowed theme setting.

In the cfg file I have
Code: [Select]
time format: 12hour

and in the sbs:
Code: [Select]
%ac%cl:%cM%cP

It also failed with: bidir limit is not a allowed theme setting.

In cfg file its
Code: [Select]
bidir limit: 0

Any idea why? Have these been deprecated? Theyre listed in the manual.

The theme site only allows some specific theme related config options, to avoid themes accidentally overriding user-set options. We've seen themes in the past setting things like the EQ.

I'd argue that 12 vs 24 hour clock is something for the user to decide, not the theme author

Fair enough. It doesnt seem to make any difference anyway as the format is set by the time tags in the sbs.

As for the bidir, that would be useful as its quite a narrow space i have the scrolling happen in, and having text bouncing would be very annoying!
