Application Shortcuts
« on: March 03, 2010, 03:42:38 PM »
I'd like to put a shortcut to Pictureflow on the main menu. Is that possible?

Short answer: No.

The developers don't think it's a good idea to make the menus customizable for various reasons that I can't go into (since I'm not completely sure what all of the reasons are exactly).

Oh, so there are no configuration files I can edit to change it?

You would have to rewrite the menu code fairly significantly to add a shortcut ability to it, I imagine this would be fairly difficult for anyone who isn't familiar at all with the Rockbox source code.

Menus are actually blocks of c code.  You can edit the c code and then compile your own build with your new menu in it.  I don't think its that complicated, but off hand I'm not sure how to do it.

While I know basic C, I'm not good with it. Could someone point me in the direction of the source, so I can give it a try?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. But I wouldn't even know where to start modifying it XD

You'll need to have SVN installed in order to check out the source code, that's the easiest way to get it...

Here are some pages you might want to visit:
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/UsingSVN <-- how to use SVN to check out the source code and more...
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/DevelopmentGuide <-- guide, has further links on how to set up a build environment depending on your operating system, how to compile, etc.
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/DocsIndex <-- more documentation, if you need it (scroll down to find the section titled "For Developers", there are plenty of links there that should cover just about anything you might need to know.
