Vinnyblackjack:
Hi I don't know where else to post this but considering its directly related to the battery I decided to post it here. Also I spend a half hour searching the forums for the solution.

I have a 30gig 5g iPod Video that I have used heavily for the last 3 years during work for about 8 hours every 5-6 days. I never replaced the battery. The original firmware lasts about 8 hours even with song changing and skipping every few hours. But when I installed rockbox it lasts around 4 hours. I checked the battery about 3 times, around the 3rd hour and it said 60% then just before it died it said 54%.

I love rockbox and I never want to see itunes again. So I was asking if I needed to make any adjustments to the settings or replace the battery.

Thanks for reading, and I apologize in advance if this topic has been beaten to death in other posts.

If your battery is three years old without replacement, it almost certainly needs to be replaced. The original firmware should last considerably longer than 8 hours (and Rockbox should last longer than the original firmware, but I can't advise you on that at all without knowing what settings you've changed, etc).

torne:
For mp3 or similar cheap codecs, a 30GB ipod video with default settings should last for 12-14 hours at least, in both the OF and Rockbox, and it should last maybe an hour or two longer in Rockbox.

Your battery is basically shot, which I could have told you given that its like 3 years old :)

Lipoly batteries last for maybe 2-3 years of heavy usage before the voltage drops dangerously under load (like when spinning up a hard disk).
