Theme available but not for my player
« on: March 02, 2010, 01:08:38 PM »
I have seen the Knightbox theme on the Iriver H320/340 page but obviously it aint gonna work with the iPod video.

I have absolutley no idea how to write code so would have no idea how to modify it to work on the video. Is there an easy way around it, or is anyone clever enough to modify it so it would. Obviously it would need permission from the original creator.

Could someone give me any advice what to do as it looks gorgeous.

Many thanks

PAUL

You don't need to know how to write code, though I suppose the WPS syntax might be considered somewhat code-like...

In any case, a good place to start would be here, that page is the CustomWPS page on the wiki with a pretty good overview of all the current WPS tags used to display the various components. If you can wrap your head around that, the next thing you'd have to do would be download the theme you want to modify and make the necessary changes to get it to work. Some definite changes that would need to be made would be to resize most, if not all, of the images to fit the larger screen of the iPod video, plus changing the positioning of the images and the text to properly align it all. As well, you'd likely need to change the progress bar tag to match the new syntax (the new syntax is on the wiki page I linked to earlier in this reply, I can't remember the old syntax but I think it was something like %pb|left|top|right|) and remove the %P tag since it's no longer needed (the image being called already in the %pb tag as part of the new syntax).

I hope this helps, and good luck with it if it does. If not, I'm sorry I can't do anything more to help.

Obviously it would need permission from the original creator.

All themes on http://themes.rockbox.org/ are supposed to use the CC-BY-SA license, so you do explicitely have this permission.

See http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/ThemeGuidelines#Licensing for details

dont they have the same screen size?
the theme you're referring to is on the old theme site, so it hasn't been updated in a while. thats probably why it doesn't work.
you'd have to fix it up to match the current wps syntax.

Unfortunatly that's broken at the minute anyway. I have to fix it. it was up to the latest syntax but has been removed while i fix it. (Missing images)
I can try my hand at porting to the iPod Video but it'll be next week or so when I'm back online before it's ready.

---edit-----

I've fixed it for h3xx now.
So will hopefully have it ported next week.

Ste - Thankyou so much. I used to have an H320 and while using Rockbox on it before it died I had the Knightbox theme and I loved it. I'm just hopeless when it comes to doing this sort of thing; I have had a look at the wiki page regarding making themes but it's just so complicated for me.

If you are able to make a version for the iPod video I would be so grateful, however long it takes you.

All the best
