Install fails on 5G video w/ 32GB SSD
(1/1)

Hi, new user here...
I've been using rockbox on my 1st gen 2G nano with no problems, so I thought i'd try installing it on my 5G 30GB video
However, I've swapped out the stock HDD for a 32GB runcore 1.8" ZIF PATA SSD drive which is a straight swap ;D
ipodpatcher detects the ipod ok and installs the boot loader but when rebooting i get an error
if i use the 30GB software, i get ATA Error -32
if i use the 60/80GB software, i get ATA Error -11
Any ideas?
Note: the ipod otherwise works fine with the original firmware and iTunes. Detects it as having 29.73GB available. Windows sees it as a FAT32 drive
Cheers, Kieran

You would need to use the iPod Video 30GB build since your iPod came with a 30GB drive by default. The difference in the builds is that one is made to use a 32MB buffer (the iPod Video 30GB only had a 32MB buffer) and the other (iPod 60/80GB build) uses a 64MB buffer since those iPods have a 64MB buffer.
I don't know what either of those ATA errors mean so I can't help you there, I imagine someone who knows the ATA code could tell you what that means. If I had to make a guess, though, it would be that Rockbox is expecting the SSD to do something that a regular hard drive would that the SSD doesn't (like a hard drive spin-up or something.

cheers. i'm going to try it with a 32GB CF card, as i think others have got those working.
i was just trying to see if it *could* be done. works fine with the stock apple firmware though, so not sure why rockbox doesn't like it :(
the SSD can go in my macbook air :)
