Plugging into computer restarts Rockbox and loads disk mode (Ipod 80G)

When I plug in my ipod with rockbox on it briefly shows me the rockbox computer connected screen and then it restarts and brings up the ipod in disk mode and then the computer recognizes that. How can I change it so that it doesn't restart into disk mode anymore?

Hold down "menu" while plugging in.

If I hold menu down before I plug it in it doesn't reboot but it doesn't go into multimedia mode and my computer doesn't recognize it as a drive. When I hold it down while plugging it in it still changes to the ipod side.

Aha. Multimedia mode isn't in the main build (3.5, 3.4, etc). You have to use a daily build.

Multimedia mode = USB mode which is still not stable enough for the releases. I personally am avoiding it because if I move a lot of data on/off the drive I get FAT errors.

It is nice to use it as a remote though

That sucks. I'm using the stable 3.5 build I got through the Rockbox utility and that's what I get when I plug it in.

I don't use the rbutil but can't you tell it to grab the newest daily build?

You can but I only use the stable build. In fact I just reinstalled the stable build to see if anything changes and it still doesn't load properly.

If you hold menu down while plugging in, it shouldn't go into any sort of diskmode, it should remain in the standard Rockbox interface and charge only (albeit slowly) so you can continue to use it.  If it doesn't, that is a bug.

I'd just use the current build if I were you.

No stable build on the ipod has *ever* gone into the Rockbox disk mode, so if you used to have this behaviour then you must've been using the current development build at some point. This is not a matter of "not loading properly" - this feature is explicitly disabled in the stable builds.

I should have clarified, it reboots and then loads the Ipod disk mode, not Rockbox's.

Yes. That is expected behavior on the stable builds.

I thought I was installing 3.5 but I guess I accidentally did the current build because when I plug my fourth generation iPod into my computer with USB it goes right to "Multimedia Mode". Until I have the opportunity to install the proper 3.5, what can I do to make the iPod connect in the usual disk mode manner, so that I can drag and drop files?

The disk mode is just the apple firmware.  Reboot into Apple's firmware and then plug in USB.

You should be able to drag and drop files anyway. The screen that says "Multimedia Mode" is the Rockbox USB mode, which should work fine as a regular mass storage device. The "Multimedia Mode" text refers to what keyboard keys the player's buttons will simulate: this is for USB HID, a feature unrelated to file transfers.

When I plugged it into my laptop running Ubuntu, it didn't appear to mount. However, I noticed that I could adjust the computer's volume with the iPod's scroll wheel.
