Rockboxed Gigabeat F reports to windows as fixed drive instead of removable
« on: February 24, 2010, 03:36:41 PM »
Hi,

i have a Gigabeat F40 that runs rockbox r24803. On Windows XP I use Musicbee music manager / player that can sync to MSC devices. For detection it relies on the device type that Windows reports. My Gigabeat is detected as "fixed" device so Musicbee doesn't detect it for syncing etc.

Is there anything that can be done on rockbox' side to make it show up as type "removable" in Windows?

Thanks

I think thats just how the hardware ATA to USB bridge on the Gigabeat works.

Hi,

I prefer it showing up as a hard drive..... Personally, I never liked how the synching process took over with my Gigabeat S60..... I did the same on my son's F40....

I like to have manual control over what gets copied onto the player.... Then just update the database inside Rockbox....

Also Now I can use the S60 & F40 as an external hard drive which greatly expands their general usefulness.....

Just my 2 cents...
