B7k:
Hi i have used rockbox for awhile now on my ipod 80gb and have awlays enjoyed musepack as my codex of choice but i was wondering what other codex has the same optimization as muspack ie. long battery life, less boost on the cpu?

saratoga:
We just went through a large round of optimizations for various codecs.  I haven't updated the CodecPerformanceComparison page yet for the PP players (such as your ipod), but here are the latest results:

http://duke.edu/~mgg6/rockbox/test_codec_log_01.txt

Note that the lowest clock speed currently allowed on your player is 30MHz, so going much lower then that only helps if you use a lot of EQ or DSP effects, so you could probably use MP3/MPC/FLAC/Vorbis/WMA with about the same battery life.

Thanks for the answer. However their is another is the faad2 decoder yet optimized enough as I am looking at the buffering thread Cpu is @ 80MHz and has a boost around 63-64% (61-62MHz) with Nero AAC codex / 1.5.3.0 @ 180kbps (VBR) and I know mp3 and mpc are so far the best in terms of optimization on my hardware. would you suggest vorbis or is their more tunning of faad2 in the next release of rockbox?

Thanks allot for everyone's hardwork with this project rockbox forever :)

Those are included in my tests.  Scroll down for the "nero" results.  And you can't actually get the decoder speed from the buffering screen.  Mostly that just benchmarks how fast the decoder screen is, not the codec.
