iPod nano 2g: not detected properly (zero bytes free)

(1/1)

FrauHolle:
Hi guys,

I installed rockbox on my ipod nano 2g as described. I could upload files, start the player, play songs, etc., everything as expected. However when I tried connecting it the next time it was not recognized correctly (no name and 0 bytes (size of drive)). I am still able to use the device properly. Just when I connect it to my computer the described problem appears.

I already tried uninstalling any USB device from my System and reinstalling it. It never even shows my iPod's name. I assume this is a problem other people must have experienced before, though I am unsure if it is necessarily caused by rockbox.

System: IBM Thinkpad T42, Windows XP SP3

EDIT:
Sorry, I am a noob, found the solution:
In the very detailed settings menu you can switch to "presentation mode" and switch USB HID off (? does that make sense that upon changing to "USB HID: no" I get a correctly recognized device...?). I think this is a typical issue that should be addressed better (i.e. in the intro), I found several forums where that question popped up though it is quite hard to track cause people regularly account this problem to other reasons.
