Possible Egg on My Face - FM Radio Toshiba Gigabeat S60

(1/1)

Hi,

I am writing this note to likely apologize to the Gigabeat S users and Coders about my FM Radio issues and headaches.

Tonite I updated to the latest build, r24762 and once again the FM Radio was flaky.... I started to get angry and I gave the unit a bit of a whack on its backside....apparently as I did this, I was also squeezing the sides and front of it.  Suddenly, the radio came to life....

I shut it down after a few minutes, and rebooted the player to test the radio again.  It came up, but no sound.  As a test I started to squeeze the case around the front perimeter, and when I got near the area that would be "below" the headphone jack, and the radio audio turned on....

I kept testing using my squeezing method and after several tests, it is appearing that my unit must have a weak or partially broken connection somewhere near the headphone jack internally.

I will continue my testing, but I think I am going to have to open it up and check for a cold solder joint or something.

Ok,

After a couple tries at fixing this I have come to the conclusion that my FM Radio is mucked.  Seems like a bad antenna connection maybe, but either way it is definitely my unit's issue and not rockbox's as I had been thinking a couple weeks back.

I took it apart, and it worked for an hour or so, but then it started messing up again.  I didn't want to tear it down completely as I was afaraid it might break entirely, and since the player works rather well, I can just not use the FM radio.....simply not worth the cost of trying to get it repaired; everything else works great with Rockbox...
