CF on Samsung YH-820?

(1/1)

luncheonticket:
Greetings fellow Rockboxers!!

I've been a long time user of Rockbox, I've been using it since circa early 2006 with my first mp3 player (gen. 1 iPod Nano), and I am currently using Rockbox with an e250 Sansa since late 2006 (great combo, very reliable and powerful).

I'm very very happy with this excellent firmware and wouldn't change it for anything else, so kudos to the whole team! ;D

Well, enough of this rant...

I recently acquired a Samsung YH-820 player (a friend of mine was about to throw it away!) and managed to run Rockbox in it. Runs as great as in the Sansa, but with the smaller screen. ;D

BUT! it seems like the internal MicroDrive is about to die, so I was wondering if anyone tried doing a MicroDrive-to-CF conversion with it not unlike the very popular iPod Mini CF conversions. If anyone tried this, please let me know.

Thanks! ;D

Nichlas:
I have a 8 gb CF in my yh-925. Its working very well.
The card must be IDE compliant and marked as a fixed device.
I bought a sandisk card at first, but it seems that the removable bit cannot be changed in new sandisk cards.
The Toshiba 1.8" to CF converter on dealextreme (green one) works for me, with the jumper desoldered and bridged.

Good luck and happy modding!

Thanks for the information! Can the removable bit be changed via software, with hdparm for example? Or is it a hardware/jumper setting?

Nichlas:
The removable bit on older sandisk cards can be changed with software floating around the web. I think there is software for changing it on other cards to.
Some cards are sold with the bit already set. It should already  be set on those cards that have fully IDE compatible in the description.
