BIG problem with battery_bench [5G Ipod video] [no longer serious]
« on: February 16, 2010, 09:27:31 AM »
[[Rockbox 3.5, 5G ipod video, 30Gigs]]
I ran battery benchmark last night, and this morning, I woke up to find my battery dead (as I obviously expected)

I had just let it run overnight...

now I am trying to charge the battery...and IT WILL NOT CHARGE

My ipod has been plugged in for at LEAST an hour, and NOTHING HAPPENS...
the screen won't turn on, nothing responds, and it just plain WONT TURN ON

I have NO idea what to do!
My computer does not recognise it either!

AAAH!...any help?

EDIT! I was pressing buttons, trying to make it work (after about an hour on the charger) and it RANDOMLY decided to start up...
now it is working fine.

but when it turned on, it said that the battery was almost full, so when it was charging, it was STILL working...but why couldnt I turn it on?

that is my question now...

and another question to throw in now so I can stop worrying:

while charging, I am assuming that Rockbox will stop charging when the battery gets to 100%...an I right?
I did not know this before, and I have overcharged batteries in various other appliances and toys before, and seen that beautiful white smoke and such...I have just been paranoid the past coule of days, never letting it leave my sight while charging...

anyone care to inform me of this?

and: I am looking at my "battery_bench.txt" file, and it goes from 99%, to 100%, down to 89%, then back up to 100%...  ???
then it stopped recording data at 58%...  ???
what is this?...it also stopped recording data at 3852mV...that is quite a bit...so, I am wondering why it stopped there, because I have see with my own eyes, this player go below 58%...it was still running at 4% yesterday...

You don't have to worry about overcharging.  Charging automatically shuts off when the battery approaches full capacity.

It almost sounds like your player suffered a crash and was stuck.  Maybe you accidentally pressed the hard reset button combination at the time when you got it to boot.  It does sound like the battery never actually ran down but that there was another problem preventing it from booting.

I don't know why it would crash in the middle of the night...
I just sat it on my desk before I went to bed...
I am going to do it again tonight...

and maybe I did press the hard reset button combination, I don't really know...

Everything seems fine, so nothing is seriously wrong with it
