Sansa E280 v1 File Structure Corrupting

(1/1)

warrenrh:
I have one of the Sansa E280 (old version 1) players.
The File Structure seems to be corrupting.

For several months now "additional directories" (folders) have been created.  These directories have largely unprintable names, composed of strange characters.

Over the last several months - I have updated my Rockbox to the then Current Rockbox build several times, hoping that a new version of Rockbox might help.  But it hasn't seemed to.

Today I noticed that most of my other directories - which contain Audio files had disappeared.  I decided it was time to try to stop and clear up what was happening. But found I am going to need Help.

I was unable to delete the "additional directories" via the USB PC connection, and my Windows file explorer.  But using rockbox, and the "Delete Directory" function within the Context menu -- I was able to delete most of these bad "additional directories".

There was one last bad "additional directory" in the root.  It is very big - at maybe 2 or 3 gigabytes, and it contains other unprintable directories, and maybe files.  Attempting to delete this directory -- rockbox issued the following warning:  *PANIC*  Write -1461044895    then appeared to freeze or lock up.  Eventually I was able to get rockbox to shutdown, and then restart.

Rockbox still plays music, and appears to work.   But I know I'm having a problem with my Sansa.  Has my Sansa hardware probably gone bad?  Could you give me some Advice or Recommendations?

yapper:
Run chkdsk with the /f switch.
From windows, click Start, Run, type cmd in the box and click OK
At the command prompt, type the following replacing X with the drive letter of your Sansa:

--- Code: ---chkdsk X: /f
--- End code ---

You will see something like this if all is well:

--- Code: ---C:\>chkdsk g: /f
The type of the file system is FAT32.
Volume Serial Number is A84D-95CE
Windows is verifying files and folders...
File and folder verification is complete.
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
