using 5g 30gb rockbox with a 5g 80g ipod question
« on: February 14, 2010, 12:25:18 AM »
So every once in a while when going through songs or playing games while listening to music, i get a silent spot in the track. I'm guessing that the silence in the track is because there is simply too many things going on in the standard 64mb ram (the correct installation for 80gb ipod videos). But what I'm wondering is, if I install the 32mb ram installation (the correct rockbox for 30gb ipod videos), will these blank spaces go away? If it improves the blank spaces wouldnt it leave more room for rockboy to run in the ram making it smoother?

thanks, sorry for all the questions, but I am extremely new with rockbox, and frankly i'm facinated by it.

Gaps in playback are generally caused by the playback buffer not filling fast enough to keep up with playback. Common causes may be higher CPU usage by other threads (such as playing games that need a little more CPU power), as well as decoding a file format that requires more CPU power to decode (WavPack is a good example from my experience...).

I can't really tell you whether or not installing the other iPod build would solve anything, though...

I don't really understand what you are talking about, but I can absolutely guarantee that using the 32MB ram version of Rockbox will not make *anything* work better. Less ram is worse, always.
