rbutilqt crashes installing bootloader - bug in rbutil 1.2.4 - 1.2.3 works fine.
« on: February 10, 2010, 09:23:07 AM »
Hi,

I am new to Rockbox, but I wrote my first program in 1971 and worked in the industry ever since.

I CANNOT INSTALL ROCKBOX BOOTLOADER!!!

I have two iPod Video 5th 60GB. These have been upgraded to firmware 1.3.

I have various Windows based computers, either XP or Win2000 most of which are fairly clean and up to date.

Whatever combination of computer, iPod and O/S I use rbutilqt crashes almost immediately with a msvcrt (MS C Runtime library) error

Modver: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 000323e4

I suspect I have the wrong version of msvcrt.dll. But can anyone tell me which version I need?

To clarify: if I use rbutilqt to install games or fonts or rockbox itself it works fine.

If I use it to install the bootloader, minimal installation or complete installation it crashes as above.

If I try to uninstall the bootloader rbutilqt says that it cannot find it.

HELP!

Keith Bowden
k.bowden@physics.bbk.ac.uk

Added: This is a bug in rbutil 1.2.4.

Old version 1.2.3 works fine. K

I think you have to make sure that the Rockbox utility is running in administrator mode in order to install the bootloader...

I don't remember Windows XP very well but if its the same as Vista and Windows 7 you can easily do so by right clicking the application icon and selecting "Run as administrator" from the menu.

It's almost close; you would right click and select "Run as...", then pick Administrator.

To the OP: I removed your other thread that you started since it's a duplicate of this one.

Ok, fine. What now?

If you're in "the industry" since so long you should be aware that this is screaming. Stop screaming.

Have you checked with Dependency Walker if there are DLLs missing? Rockbox Utility is built with MinGW (this version is built using the gcc4 compiler. Old versions used gcc3).

Please post the output of the Help / Troublshooting / System Info dialog.

Dear Bluebrother,

Learn to distinguish between highlighting and screaming.

You can't STOP doing something that you've only done ONCE.

(There now I've done it three times.)

Love and Kisses,
Keith

Er, what now?  Of course you can.

Love and Kisses,
Keith

There is no need to be deliberately antagonistic.

Anyway, enough of this.  Can we get back to the issue?  I think the information that people have asked for would probably help us get to the bottom of this problem.

Thanks

I believe I have the same problem.  My 5.5 gen 80gb iPod Classic has Apple 1.3 software on it.  I'm running rbutilqt-v1.2.4 which I just downloaded and get a similar error.

I select my iPod from the list, point it to the mount point, click Complete Install then get the error.  Here's details:

AppName: rbutilqt.exe    AppVer: 0.0.0.0    ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180    Offset: 000323e4

I can't copy the memory dump but this is from the .txt file, see attached.

I think we found the problem, and we are in the process to create a new release.

You can try the new binarys here: http://www.alice-dsl.net/dominik.riebeling/rockbox/rbutil-releases/1.2.5/

Sorry, I've been away. I will try the new build. Thanks.

The point I was making is that you should never assume other people's motivations. Even regarding love and kisses. You learn this as you grow up.

Seems you didn't learn that you shouldn't either.

You learn this as you grow up.

Please stop insulting people, it doesn't make you big and clever.
