Can't install bootloader on ipod video 80gb
Driver8:
Safe mode does seem to do the trick. If ESET was involved, it certainly gave no indication that it was blocking something from happening. Thanks for your help!

I also use Windows 7 x64 and an iPod Video.
Please please help.

Safe Mode is not necessary.
The only real requirement is low level access to the device, which means you must either be the administrator of the machine, or have an account with elevated (administrative) privileges. The Rockbox manual for your device describes this clearly:
--- Quote ---Administrator/Root rights.
Installing the bootloader portion of Rockbox requires you to have administrative (Windows) or root (Linux) rights. Consequently when doing either the automatic or manual bootloader install, please ensure that you are logged in with an administrator account or have root rights.
--- End quote ---
On Windows, assuming your account has administrative rights, it should be sufficient to simply right click on the Rockbox Utility binary and select Run As Administrator. If UAC (User Account Control) is active for the account, you will need to allow the instance of Rockbox Utility to run with administrative privilege.
Additionally, as bluebrother noted in a prior post, iTunes may interfere with the installation process. It isn't necessary to remove iTunes, but you may need to stop any Apple/iTunes related processes for the duration of the bootloader install. Only the bootloader requires low-level disc access, the Rockbox binary requires no special treatment for installation.
