Can't install bootloader on ipod video 80gb

(1/6) > >>

christicaso:
I'm trying to install rockbox on my ipod video 80gb 5th generation. The rockbox Utility gives me the following error when I try to do the complete install and the bootloader install "Error reading partition table - possibly not an Ipod". I was able to install rockbox on the root directory of my ipod with no problems.

I'm on an administrator account, windows vista. The Ipod is in disk mode but no luck. I tried installing it manually following the appropiate manual but the ipodpatcher.exe link it leads to is for a 2nd gen nano bootloader. When I run that it says the following "[ERR] No ipods found, aborting [ERR] Please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disk mode [ERR] Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems".

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Firstly, are you sure it's an ipod video, and not the "ipod classic" ?  See here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353

Rockbox doesn't work on the ipod classic.

christicaso:
I just double checked using the link you posted and I'm 100% positive it's an ipod video 5th gen.

linuxstb:
OK, in which case, have you modified it at all?  e.g. reformatted it?  Does the original Apple firmware still work?

The Rockbox installation tools (Rockbox Utility and ipodpatcher) both require a working ipod to install Rockbox on to.

The error message you're quoting says that the partition table on your ipod is not what is expected.

christicaso:
the ipod works fine, I'll try restoring/reformatting it just in case.
