Podcatcher and video transcoding

(1/1)

roadSurfer:
Please excuse me if this is the wrong place, and I have searched but did not find an answer.

I am looking for a way to manage podcasts and sync them onto my Rockbox 3.5 Sansa e280v1 (new release is great, by the way).  I've tried Banshee, gPodder, Songbird, amaroK etc and they all seem to be fine, but they all suffer for the same problem.  When they sync a video podcast, they just just drop the AVI (or whatever) file on there and don't transcode it.  Rockbox, unfortunately, can't have AVIs as far as I know.

What I would like to do is transcode these video podcasts either as a batch job or during the sync process.  I know I can use VLC to do this manually, but I am looking for a more automated solution.

Is there any recommended podcatching software that works best with Rockbox?  Or does anyone have any advice on script/ways of dealing with this?  I figure I can't be the only one who has stumbled on this...

Thanks.

i suggest WinFF for your batch transcoding needs. here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginMpegplayer#Using_WinFF_Windows_Linux

media coder used to work but i seem to be having troubles with it nowadays. so just use WinFF.

Thanks.  I tried WinFF on a bunch of .mov files I had, it worked pretty well.  I am quite surprised that none of the podcatchers do automatic transcoding, would seem to be a "must have" feature to me.

Ah well....guess it's time to learn some scripting.
