ClipV1 Playback Crashes
« on: January 30, 2010, 04:38:13 AM »
So, these crashes only seem to occur when I'm playing my whole database (319 songs) on shuffle. All the files on my 2 gig ClipV1 also exist on my rockboxed e280v2, and it damn near never crashes.

Anyways, I get;

Code: [Select]
*PANIC*
DMA error, channel 1

Code: [Select]
Data abort
at 3002C43C

Code: [Select]
Data abort
at 3000B020

Code: [Select]
Data abort
at 3002C41C

Seemingly randomly. It's always when changing to the next song, but it's sometimes the 9th song, sometimes the 50th. Seems to me that the actual location for the Data abort is different every time too.

Sorting/playing by artist I never see crashes like this. Like I said, seems only to be while shuffling the whole database.

I'm running r24370-100129. If I get unlazy some time today I'll try todays build too.

I get that the Clip is still a WIP, but I've gotta say when playing by artist/album the thing seems stable enough for day-to-day. Hopefully my small contribution can get shuffling the whole database going properly too...

Can't wait for some progress on the Clip+! (Too bad I can't code my way out of a paper bag)

Do you get the same sort of behavior when shuffling any large playlist (I have some doubts that this specifically depends on the database)?  I'm playing a shuffled playlist on my Clip (r24332) now to see if I see similar behavior.

It's fine to post here to see if other people experience something similar under the stated conditions but ultimately it is best to put this information into a bug report.

I do seem to get the same behaviour from large(r) playlists. Seems anything over about 20 files... but perhaps it's just because I change songs more often than when I'm listening to one album at a time.

And you're right about the bug reports, I just wasn't sure if it was some setting or something I'd done. Didn't wanna clog up the bug reporting system with extraneous bugs. Duly noted, though.

No setting should lead to data aborts or panics.

I wasn't able to listen to my Clip for long enough to produce a crash the other day and I'm a bit busy right now to carry out the test.  Still, I think if you reliably get crashes when playing a long playlist with Shuffle turned on then I think it's appropriate to file a bug report (I don't see any relevant bug report on the tracker already).
