Manual iPod reformat in linux, quick question

(1/1)

efiniti:
I'm doing a reformat of my iPod as I'm getting errors on my partition and its about time to start fresh.  I'm going to rewrite the MBR as well as some cylinder boundary issue comes up when reading my boot partition.

I had a 30GB 5G iPod Video, but I upgraded the hard drive to a 60GB.  My sector size is 512 bytes.  Do I go for mbr-video30gb.bin or mbr-video60gb.bin?  I assume the 60gb one.

Also when choosing my firmware what's the difference between 5G (13/1.3) and 5G (20/1.3)?  Just a newer version?  (Referring to this site)

linuxstb:
Yes, you should use the 60gb MBR.  The MBR contains the partition layout, so you want one that matches the size of the disk.

Regarding the two firmware files, they are in fact the same firmware (if you download both and compare the Firmware-X.Y.Z files, you will see that they are byte-for-byte identical), so it doesn't matter which one you download.  I've no idea why there are two different versions.

Thanks!
