Sorting artists in the file system without the 'The'

I know that there was a discussion on this topic in 2006 but the only thing I've found that's more recent on the topic is a patch providing this functionality in the database. Has anyone made a patch for this that I am just not finding?

Or if there is no work being done on this, could anyone hazard a guess as to how hard it would be to implement? If someone (say a rockbox developer) doesn't think it should be too hard I'd have a go at it myself.

As this isn't wanted in Rockbox (specifically not wanted as a hard coded ignore "The" (see the previous discussions)), I'm not aware that there is a patch floating around.

I think that maybe I wasn't clear enough. I put the title as it is because it was similar to the discussion for the feature in the file system. But I noticed there is a patch that uses the id3 tags for the database. Really I just wanted to know if there was a similar patch available for the file system, not specifically for a hard coded "ignore 'the'" patch.

There was a patch on the old discussion but it's been taken down.

I remember a patch for doing this in the database, which never made it into SVN because it wasn't done the right way.

There's never been a patch to do this in the file browser.
