Toshiba Gigabeat S60 Power Off Charging
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:40:34 PM »
Hi,

Using the Current Release of RockBox on my S60, I noticed that the original firmware would put up a charging icon when you would charge it with the power off.  With RockBox installed, I get no charging icon with the power off.

This is when using the main power plug (wall) charger, not the USB port.  I think with the OF, it creates some type of partial minimal power up, because the display comes on, but is black, and you get the little charging icon in the lower right corner.

Any thoughts ?

I know the S60 is hardly the most popular player, so its understandable that most folks have not even seen one.  Its very cool that the RockBox team even ported to it.

This is true, I hadn't noticed before :)  Does it still charge however?  I can't check myself right now as my battery is full :)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply...

I can't say for sure if the battery is charging when powered off, and the power wart plugged in the player.

It seems like the battery may not be charging, but then again it also seems as if its not discharging either, as the S60 seems prone to do with the OF....Powered off battery drain is terrible with the OF.

Well the OF sleeps, whereas Rockbox properly shuts down.  I guess this is why there is no icon.  Next time it needs charging I'll try on mine to see if it still charges.

Hi,

I recently put RockBox on my son's Gigabeat F40, and just to mention/point out that when plugged in to the wall charger and powered off, his unit displays the charging screen....

I know they are different versions entirely....but thought I'd mention it just in case...

His F40 has really responded well to RockBox.... you guys are amazing !!  Its like a whole new player....

They are very different players, and not really comparable.

I am also experiencing this behaviour on my s30. When the device is turned off and i plugin the charger it automatically turns on. Then i turn it off with the power button, after it has loaded rockbox. i thought this meant that rockbox did not support charging via the power adapter. Am i wrong?

Rockbox certainly supports charging via the A/C adaptor when on.  I'm not sure if charging works when it is off.
