Select button adds subdirectories recursively

When I rockboxed my Ipod 5.5G, I thought rockbox behaves like winamp; tree-based player, insert folders recursively.

Now after reading the manual it seems there is no fast option on this at all. You can do it with dynamic playlists, but its clumbersome (too many button presses).

I wonder, why there is no option for customizing buttons? Now select does quite exactly like fast forward button and its pointless imho. it would be great to change behaviour of select button that it acts like "clear dynamic playlist & add subfolders recursively", just like winamp does. After all, that is the intuitive way to add music.

Any opinions? can this be done somehow already? Is there a patch?

(Other than this, rockbox is quite perfect  )

Hmm, I already said that I read the manual and know the playlist option, but you still linked manual to me...

I did some search in forum and I was amazed why certain feature suggestions will never be implemented. " Because code complexity and support problems"
With all due respect, but just say you don't bother because you don't feel its important.  This my suggested feature would be very welcome amongs many users as would be customizable main menu. And there is no reason not to impelemt them. Geesh, rockbox has numerous zero value features, like some useless demos, quake, etc etc etc.

Like I said, I respect your work and effort. But I suggest to think of new potential feature suggestions a bit more seriously.

Before iPod, I used to own iAudio X5. it has joystick i.e same amount of "buttons" like iPod. Center button acts like "add all" i.e. add all music files recursively and its super useful. Your rockbox has exatly same button function on select and ffdd button on file menus.  Can you please explain me why you devs decided to waste 1 button?

a)  Plugins have no impact on the rest of Rockbox, they are "free"

b)  I linked the manual to you ad you said it would be great to "clear dynamic playlist & add subfolders recursively" - yes, the first doesn't happen (as I said), but the second is perfectly possible.  We have had more people that I can remember claiming to have read the manual when they hadn't.

c)  Code complexity and support problems are very real reasons, especially the first one.

d)  There are reasons not to implement things, see above.  In addition, every feature added to the main binary takes away memory that could be used to buffer music and therefore reduce battery life.  Also, Rockbox already has a somewhat confusing menu structure, adding every random option people would like makes this worse.  Features have to be carefully considered.

e)  If you really want something, the only way to be sure to have it is to get coding.  That isn't to say that it'll get in to Rockbox, but at least you will have it.
