Toshiba Gigabeat S60 in Car USB charging & playing
sammydad1:
Hi,
Has anybody who uses a Toshiba Gigabeat with RockBox been able to use an in-car USB charger while playing music, either with headphones or using the car's radio unit.
Today, when I tried this, the S60 went in to Multimedia mode or USB mode when all I was doing was charging the player thru a usb cord. I was unable to get it to play while the USB charging cable was plugged in....
At one point I tried to power the unit off while the USB cable was plugged in, and the power button got no response. When I unplugged the USB cable, it went to a screen that said "Pa#nic St%p" or something resembling that. I had to use the battery on/off switch on the bottom to get it to power off and power back up.
The Panic Stop page seems to be repeatable so I presume it to be a default feature for certain circumstances....
Is there maybe a special charging USB cable rather than the one I have that might charge while paying ?

There should be a button that you need to hold while plugging in the USB cable to bypass Rockbox's USB mode and allow you to charge the player from a USB source while still listening to it...
Try holding the Menu button, that's what the manual says...

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I did press the Menu button when powering up, that is how I got into Multi-Media mode as opposed to straight USB mode.
It does work when plugged into a PC. But it doesn't seem to work the same when using an in-car charger and no pc.

Ah, I see... I can't help ya too much there then... Hopefully someone else will have an idea.

You don't press the button while powering up. You power up normally, and once in Rockbox, hold down the button while inserting the USB cable.
This should be explained in the manual.
