ipod color batteries deplete while plugged in
(1/1)

Hello! I have ipod color/ photo, and the batteries deplete when plugged in to charge. I have put a new 1200 mAh battery. It will charge on original firmware.I know it will charge slow w/ rb, but backwards is never good. Dose anyone else have this prob.? Using current build.

If you already know that Rockbox doesn't charge properly on these iPods, then what is the surprise? The power drawn from the host is limited to 100mA which may indeed not be enough to prevent the battery from discharging, it depends what you are doing with it. It should be able to charge while doing nothing (slowly) but if you are accessing it over USB (causing the disk to need to spin) then yes, it will discharge. The workaround is to use the original firmware or emergency disk mode to access the player over USB (release builds do this, but current builds do not).

Today I was using rb current and i plugged it into a charger and it went into usb mode. The battery read 88%before I plugged it in, and upon reset, the battery reads 19% then drops to 8% before creeping back to 25%. after 1 hour it was 100%, then 10 min later it was 65%.it is now 100% Could rockbox be missreading the battery?
torne:
Rockbox works out the battery percentage by looking at the voltage; if the battery is old it may have a high internal resistance which causes the voltage to fluctuate more depending on the load (i.e. whether the player is using a lot of power at the time, and whether it is on charge). That might not be the problem, but don't assume that just because you bought a replacement battery that it's actually new; many have been on the shelf for some time before they were sold and thus might not be in any better condition than an old battery.
