Rockbox General > Rockbox General Discussion
Would Rockbox serve me well in this dilemma?
(1/1)
PineappleMan:
Well, the computer with all my music went ahead and died, but I thankfully had all the music on my ipod.
However, I want to use this ipod on a new computer. I'd like to add new music without losing the songs already on the ipod.
Would Rockbox enable me to add new songs to my ipod without harming those already on the ipod? The music has absolutely no backups on computer or CD's.
Also, would the songs that are already on the ipod preserve their name, album, artist, etc etc?
Thanks!
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have a 4 year old ipod, the first generation of iPod Video.
JdGordon:
if you used itunes to put the music on, you should sync it up with another computer and get the files backed up.
otherwise, yes rockbox will work fine and doesnt touch the data unless its mac formatted

When my wife's iPod hiccupped and iTunes no longer recognized it, I used a program called Yamipod (http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/) to back everything up. It worked really well; the only thing she lost was her on-the-go playlists. It has a feature that lets you copy everything on your iPod back onto your computer, sorted into folders with proper filenames, etc.
And after you rescue your music, install Rockbox and forget about iTunes! ;)
