Help! after re-installing Rockbox, my Gigabeat F20 is dead.

(1/1)

Mellon_Chuo:
Hi, all:
My Gigabeat F20 dead after re-installing newest Rockbox yesterday.
After I press the POWER button, it shows official gigabeat booting figure, and after a flash, the screen shows below scene and stays right there.

It becomes so dead that all buttons turn into useless since then, and I have to turn the battery off before I could try again....
Besides, my desktop can't detect my F20 any more....
I used rockbox since around 2007, yesterday was my first time trying to re-new it.
I had tried pressing and holding "A" key and "VOL+"  key right after I press POWER key. All of the trials were fail to success.
I guess I had removed all original Gigabeat firmware from it....
Here's my possible way to fix:
1.  Open the F20 and use a 1.8" HDD to 3.5" IDE Adaptor to re-write the firmware files, but I have no idea where to start the tear down.
2. Send it back to Toshiba official repair center, which might cost a lot....

Hope that someone has better ideas for me to avoid the surgrey.

Thanks.

Mellon_Chuo:
hi~

I tried the surgery following suggestions from http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/GigabeatFXPort.

But after I re-attach the 1.8" HDD to gigabeat with it remain turned ON.

Nothing happened and my computer still not knowing the F20.

What else I should do?
Or does it mean my 1.8" HDD meet the end of its life?

Help me, Please....

Chronon:
An external enclosure would allow you to test the HD independent from the Gigabeat.  You can often find these pretty cheaply on eBay.  Hopefully it is just a dead HD.
