On Windows, drives name are not shown
« on: January 04, 2010, 12:37:43 PM »
On Windows, when browsing to configure the player's mount point, a browse directory dialog-box opens, allowing to select the appropriate path. The initial view shows the different drives in the systems, i.e. C:\, D:\, E:\, etc.

Windows Explorer displays these drives much better: The drive's label is shown, and it is the primary identification of it. The drive's letter are shown inside parentheses. i.e. Windows (C:), Documents (D:), Sansa E200 (E:)...

I think we should provide functionality as the Windows Explorer does, displaying the drive label in our browse directory dialog-box.

Let me describe my personal use-case:
I have connected two players, Sansa e200 and Cowon D2. Each of them uses two 'mount points' in Windows, one for the internal storage, and one for the SD card slot.
I want to install Rockbox to the D2's SD card slot, but I have no way to know what drive letter it is by just using the Rockbox Utility. For that I must open Windows Explorer and see what is the appropriate drive letter.

This is a usability bug than it is a feature request, TMHO, but still I chose to report it here, and not in Flyspray.

I would have fix this myself, but I don't seem to successfully setup a working developing environment for rbutil on Windows (that's another story - I think that the Wiki should have more detailed instructions for that).

I hope one of the rbutil developers who works in Windows can fix this :-)

I've updated those instructions a while back -- have you checked the updated those? It's almost impossible to improve the instructions without feedback of those having problems.

I will try to compile according to your instructions and report any issues. Thanks!
