running batteryless?
« on: January 03, 2010, 11:43:03 PM »
I was wondering what rockbox does when it shuts down the player (I'm using a v1 e200 if it matters). I have it plugged into the wall so its constantly charging, so instead of cycling the battery I was just going to take it out. The only drawback of this is that if the power is removed (i have it set up to a timer) then it doesn't go through the shut down sequence.

basically I'm asking if there are any serious effects (other than playlist position) by removing the power source from a battery-less player

any help is greatly appreciated,

-Tom

It *should* be just the same as doing a hard reboot while the player is on....so it *shouldn't* do any harm...

But I'm wondering if (regardless if the player is charging or not) if it needs to detect whether the batter is present, via creating a looped circuit, and whether or not it'd break stuff (some undesireable effect) if the battery wasn't there and the loop were broken.

You may need to bridge the battery terminals?

I guess that'd be the same as a battery (sortof) if it's constantly charging.

But I'm not exactly sure if it'd work or not.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

Bridging the terminals won't help you.

I don't anticipate any problems with abruptly removing the power, except for changes in settings not getting saved (if I recall correctly)

It'll run without the battery.
