H300 Battery Issue
(1/1)
myfathersson:
Machine: H320
Firmware: RB 3.4 for H300
I loaded RB on to the machine in Nov and replaced the battery in Dec because it wouldn't hold a charge. The machine seemingly was working perfectly. However, it has developed (or I'm just now observing) the following issues.
1. The battery apparently is drained with the unit turned off in about 48 hours. I say "apparently" because I see that there used to be a problem with H300 RB were the wrong battery voltage was reported, so I'm not sure if this is what is happening; from what I see this problem was fixed a while back. The things is, this is the reason I changed the battery, because it would not hold a charge. So do I have a bad battery or is it the machine or is it the firmware? Once I recharge the unit, which takes the normal length of time (2 or three hours), when I turn it on the battery indicator shows full charge (4.?v) and I can run the machine for about 8 hours; so I'm guessing that the battery is good.
2. After charging the unit, when I unplug it or, variably, when I turning it on, I get the message "please remove external battery pack". When I turn it off and turn it back on the unit boots normally. This just started happening the past week.
Any idea what is happening.
Update: I charged the unit this morning and have monitored it for the last 3 hours. According to the voltage indicated on the boot screen, it is dropping at about .02 volts per hour when shut off. I don't know how much of a drop I can expect for each boot cycle but I suspect that the drop rate is between .01 and .02 volts per hour. Assuming that minimum useful battery voltage is about 3.5 volts I estimate the discharge time to be about 35 to 45 hours, which about what it is taking.
On another note, after combing the forums, it appears that this is a relatively common problem with a variety of causes. This is not encouraging. I'd hate to loose my H300.
Llorean:
If a brand new battery in an H300 is only lasting you 8 hours, something is wrong. It should last much longer than that.
Thundercub:
Have you accidentally powered it with the wrong adapter at any point? If not, I'd say you got a dud battery.
