Sigh.. Sansa bricked
« on: December 28, 2009, 10:39:11 AM »
I had sucessfully loaded Rockbox and all was hunky dory until christmas. I pulled out my unit and it was dead. I plugged it in to recharge and now when I press power only the blue circle light comes on. No display. No connection with the computer when the unit is attached. The light will not go out when holding the power button down. I shut if off by removing the battery.

I've searched and found info but nothing I was able to use. (like holding down buttons to get into other modes)

Any other ideas from the rest of you?

TIA,

-Pete

Sounds like hardware failure. This happened last year to an e250 that I had. You can try re-seating the memory module inside the player to make sure that it doesn't have a bad connection. And try connecting the player to your computer with the battery out.

If you still have the same problem then you'll probably need a new player.

You did not specify which model Sansa you have, so it is difficult to give you more than general information.

You might want to  check the SansaE200Unbrick wiki page.  The page is for e200 and c200 (v1).

If you have an e200 (v1), you may need to reseat the memory module, as BlastTyrant suggested.  It can cause problems if the e200 is jarred or dropped.  To reseat the memory module, remove the back cover and press the rectangular black foam above the battery.  The memory module is under the foam.

Thanks for the memory chip tip. I had not found that  in my searches. I tried connecting with the battery out and that didnt change anything either. I did find out it will shut off after holding the power button for about 12 seconds.

AND I finally found the model of E250.

So which e250 is it?  V1 or V2?  If its a V1, see the link above.

Ahhhhhh...

I LOVE these forums!

I took off the back and stuck my thumb onto the memory chip as posted pressed the button and its up again!

The teeny-tiny print on the back says e250 v2. Is there differences between v1 and v2 I should know about?

Thanks again!

The print lies.  If you have an external memory chip to push back in, its a v1.  They're basically different players and run different builds of rockbox.  The v1 is better supported at the moment.

Boot to the original Sansa firmware (hold << while booting) and then go to the Settings / Info screen. If the version is 01.XX.XX then you have a v1. If it is 03.XX.XX you have a v2 (AMS).
